Cargill celebrates Green Egg Campaign in Vietnam’s Long An Province
Improving food nutrition and security one egg at a time
Cargill celebrated the Green Egg Campaign 2024 in Vietnam last Friday, showcasing the health benefits of eggs and its vital role in promoting a balanced diet and overall health and well-being. The event, held at Nguyen Trung Truc Primary School in Long An Province, is an employee volunteering initiative led by Cargill’s Micronutrition and Health Solutions (MHS) business in partnership with Cargill Cares Vietnam and aligned with the company’s purpose to nourish the world in a safe, responsible, and sustainable way.
This year’s Green Egg Campaign engaged about 600 students through interactive and educational activities like drawing contest, quiz on egg-related fun facts, and expert talk and Q&A about the goodness of eggs. Highlighting the event was the distribution of 4,800 eggs to the schoolchildren and other community members, in addition to donating books and stationery for the school.
Launched in July 2017, the Green Egg Campaign was conceptualized in honor of World Egg Day which was established in 1996 by the International Egg Commission as an annual celebration to raise awareness about eggs as an inexpensive, nutrient-dense food. The Green Egg Campaign is a testament to Cargill’s commitment to boost egg consumption for the advancement and growth of the poultry layer industry, and this year’s celebration was made possible with the support of QL Vietnam Agroresources.
Reflecting on the campaign, Gina Medina, Business Director of Cargill Micronutrition and Health Solutions in South & Southeast Asia, said: “Creating resilient and equitable food systems that provide better access to safe, affordable, and nutritious food is key to fulfilling Cargill’s purpose. The Green Egg Campaign is dedicated to promoting eggs as an excellent source of protein to more consumers around the world, building awareness and appreciation among students and local communities and enabling them to meet their nutritional needs. Together with industry partners, we are fostering sustainable egg production, addressing hunger and nutrition challenges, and helping achieve food security for the world’s growing population.”
Since its inception, the Green Egg Campaign has expanded across Asia and beyond, with events held in Davao City, Philippines (2017); Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (2018); Bengaluru, India (2019); Tangerang and Bogor, Indonesia (2020); Dhaka, Bangladesh and Toledo, Brazil (2021). In each location, Cargill collaborates with local schools, poultry farms, parents, government agencies, industry partners, media, and volunteers to support World Egg Day.
The activity also helps reinforce Cargill’s commitment to serving schoolchildren in Vietnam. The company has been building schools across rural communities since 1996 with an ambition to help improve the quality of lives through better education infrastructure. Cargill Vietnam is delivering three new school projects in Kon Tum, Lai Chau & Lao Cai this autumn, bringing the total number of completed school projects to 117 and keeping on track to building 150 schools for Vietnam by 2030.
